Why Lite:Speed? Keokon was originally a springtime convention, and the committee decided that we’d prefer to move back to that part of the year. But with only 3½ months between Thanksgiving (Keokon 2009) and Spring Break, there wasn’t much time to put a full convention together right. On the other hand, we didn’t want to skip 2010 altogether. So, we thought, maybe we could do some sort of “speed con,” or maybe just a “Keokon lite.“ Voila! Lite:Speed. What kind of con is Lite:Speed? Call it a fan day. A morning full of panels and presentations. An afternoon of gaming. And the best part is--it’s free! Will there be dealers? No, there will not be any dealers this year. However, we do have an excellent gaming store here in Keokuk, Dragon’s Den, which is just a few blocks from our venue at the Keokuk Public Library. What about a consuite? The con ‘s renowned caterer will be providing some delicious munchables, but everyone is encouraged to bring some food contribution for the snack table. There is a kitchenette available for con use. How do I get to Keokon Lite:Speed? The Keokuk Public Library is located at the corner of 5th and Concert St. The Round Room (our venue) is located to the right as you enter the front of the library. Parking is available behind the library, as well as on the street. Click here for a map. Is there anyplace to stay in Keokuk? Lite:Speed is designed as a one-day event, so that fans can attend for nothing more than the cost of gas to get here. However, if you’d like to attend the monthly meeting of the local Sci-Fi Discussion Group on Friday evening, there are several motels in town. Click here to see the options. Will there be more “regular” Keokons? YES! We have big plans for Keokon 2011! Find out all about them at the unveiling presentation at Keokon Lite:Speed!
